We had the best time on our Museum Hack tour at the American Museum of Natural History with Zak. He was super informative, engaging and very funny. We left knowing so many secret facts and info about the museum that you would NEVER hear from a normal guide. I highly recommend this tour for both museum lovers, and not so much lovers. So much fun! Thank you Zak! Really looking forward to booking my next tour with Museum Hack!

Description

Remember your elementary school field trip to the science museum?

Yeah. This is nothing like that.

Join us on a weird and wild adventure as one of our renegade tour guides lead you through an expedition through the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). On this two-hour group tour, you’ll learn the science and history behind the amazing animals on display, hear stories of the badass adventurers that collected them, and the dirty little secrets (like a giant blue whale that’s safely hung from the ceiling...or is it?) that make AMNH one of the coolest museums on the f***ing planet.

Important: We do not allow guests under 16 on this tour. You may book a private family friendly tour.

American Museum of Natural History: Un-Highlights Tour
Highly recommend for a totally unique museum experience. Kelly was wonderful--very knowledgeable and funny!
Our guide Nate, made learning fun
Not only did we got to see and learn about the T Rex, the oldest meteor, The First People, Ancient religions and customs, Hominids like Lucy, The Great Canoe and an enormous Blue Whale, to name a few, we even learnt about 30 000 year old 'porn' Lol. It was truly an entertaining experience.

Amazing Experience
I scheduled the Un-Highlights tour at the National Gallery of Art in Washington as a birthday gift for my wife (a PhD candidate in History). Neither one of us have more than a pedestrian knowledge of art or the art world. Simply put, this tour blew us both away.

Erich, our tour guide, texted us well ahead of the start time to arrange our meeting point. Once we met up, there were some quick introductions and ice breakers and the tour was on its way. Erich led us from gallery to gallery, stopping to discuss both the history behind the subjects of some of the paintings, as well as the story behind how some of the art came to be in possession of the gallery. The tour was interactive, with games and activities that were a total hoot.

The amount of knowledge Erich was able to drop was astounding and it was clear that he's an individual both with a passion for art and an intimate knowledge of the museum. The content was salacious, but always presented in a way that was respectful of both the art and the gallery. I would highly recommend the tour (and Erich as a guide). This will not be our last Museum Hack experience.

Guaranteed to make you enjoy art in a new way!
A great way to cap off our week in DC! The Nat'l Gallery of Art is a dauntingly large place, with mostly European art. My teenager was not thrilled at the prospect of spending 2 hours there. But our tour guide Caroline was speedy and informative, and she kept everyone engaged... there literally was no time for eyes to glaze over or roll. We loved the re-creation activities, and the opportunity to nominate characters in artworks for various superlative awards (best legs, cutest couple, etc.). It helps too that I won a prize for my creative response. It was a terrific way to really enjoy the museum in a new way!

Best decision of our trip
I was in NYC to celebrate my good friends birthday and she really wanted to spend some time at the Met, but we didn't have all day. Thanks to the great reviews on Trip Advisors we decided to book a Museum Hack tour. Best decision of the trip so far. We met up with Frank by the pharaoh and the fun began. Frank dodged the crowds like a native New Yorker, and soon had us standing in front of a beautiful painting by Lorenzo Lotto: Venus and Cupid. Normally I would have looked at this painting, thought "oh beautiful" and moved along. But Frank took the time to explain the subtext in a way that would make the recently departed Hugh Hefner proud. From there we zig zagged through galleries, viewed art and artifacts, played games, and were the envy of all the people on the boring tours. Finally, Frank claimed he was no expert, but I think I learned more about art, having fun, chasing your dream(even if it includes Lion's in Mexico) in two hours than I ever did in my art appreciation course in college. I can't wait to book a tour of our local museum!
