Transport, use NSB normal train and not Flytoget (airport express). The normal train is around 92 NOK and airport Express around the double price. They both need about 20 min only from Oslo airport to Oslo central station, very convenient. If you go really early or arrive really late, then Flytoget may be the only option. Or bus.

1. The cheapest way from the airport is the local train NSB. The airport shuttle train is a few minutes faster and runs more often. The bus is slower and as expensive as the shuttle train but stops at more places around the city.
2. The Oslo Pass is 330 NOK for 24h, but worth it if you are visiting a lot of museums and galleries and plan to get around a lot.
An alternative is the 24h bus/tram-ticket at ruter.no (about 90 NOK), this give you unlimited travel on any tram, subway, bus, within city limits, with option of add-on tickets outside the city or on city harbor boats.
Also you may purchase a city bike-subscribtion for about 300 NOK, which give you ability to rent bikes from the racks all over the city for 3h periods at a time. There is no short time subscription yet, but no problem to rent boy foreign tourists.
3. The weather is unstable, ranging from 5C to 20c. It could be indian summer or, early autumn storm. Check http://www.yr.no for updates.

The best way to get from the airport to the city or vice versa is to take "flytoget" which will cost approximately 180kr for an adult or 90kr for students/seniors. The bus costs 10kr less but is an enormous hassle and having taken it myself a few times I definitely do not recommend it.

I can't answer your question about the Oslo pass, but I guess that depends on what you're planning to see while you're in Oslo. I would find the prices for the different place you're planning to visit and then compare that price w the Oslo pass. The best way to get around town is definitely local transportation. Our metro (t-bane), busses, and trikk all work excellently and it's very easy to use. Download Ruter to best find which transportation to use / help you plan you're way.

Weather in September is variable. Today has been 10 C and cold and rainy, but yesterday was 20C - bikini weather in the sun. This is typical Norway. It's mostly going to be cold fall weather but you never really know so wear layers.

I hope you enjoy the city!

Great to hear tou are planning to come to Oslo.
The train is probaly best. For cost reasons avoid the Airport Express train (flytoget) which is much more expensive than the normal train). Not much experience with the pass myself, you decide really whether it covers things you plan to do. Weather varies colder in evenings certainly. Daytime can be between 10 and 20+ when lucky in the sun. Bring something warm and a jacket.
