Ottawa's history a different perspective

Beechwood Cemetery

Why locals love it

It is a peaceful, lovely setting with gardens, walking paths, a marsh, many statues and even a Pagoda. In many ways Beechwood is Canada's National Cemetery. A stroll through the grounds shows the great and the small of Canada's past.

Why you should visit it

It is home to two Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemeteries, the National Military Cemetery, the RCMP Memorial Cemetery, and the Ottawa Police Memorial Cemetery. All of which provide a unique picture of the past. You can see the graves of Lumber barons who founded Ottawa, a Prime Minister of Canada, and the founder of Canada's medicare.
