Why locals love it
This quite sanitary has the feel of a shrine. It contains only one object the headstone from Plot 8, Row E, Grave 7 at Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, France. The hall has only one window which is aligned so that, at 1100 on November 11th the headstone is illuminated by a beam of natural light (clouds permitting).


Why you should visit it
Canada's Unknown Soldier is buried at the base of the National War Memorial downtown. Every years countless tourists visit the War Memorial and the Unknown Soldier but few know that the original headstone is a few kilometres in the Canadian War Museum. It is a short walk or bike ride from downtown along the the Ottawa River Pathway.
Special tip
The Memorial Hall is in the museum lobby. You do not need to pay for the museum to visit it. Also check out the view from the museums roof.
