Rideau Hall is the Ottawa home of Canada's Head of State the Governor General. It has lovely gardens in spring and summer, movies under the stars some nights, outdoor skating in the winter, and lovely colours in the autumn. Organized tours and self guided tours of the grounds are free. It is one of the few places you can see Cricket in Ottawa.

Lusk Caves

The cave is near Philippe Lake and its popular camp ground in Gatineau Park. A nice trail (#50) follows the lake from Parent Beach to the cave trail (#54). The one way distance is about 5 km with some steep sections. Many people rent a canoe or kayak at Parent Beach then paddle to the end of the lake before hiking uphill the last 1 km.

Watson's Mill in the (former) Village of Mannotick still grinds wheat the way it was done in the 1860's. It is away from the crowded tourist haunts but is a nice outting for adults and children. Guided tours during the summer explain not only the process but the areas history.

It runs past rapids, beaches, the War Museum, the Supreme Court, and Parliament Hill before passing over the Rideau Canal locks and climbs a steep hill to Majors Hill Park.

Memorial Hall in The Canadian War Museum

This quite sanitary has the feel of a shrine. It contains only one object the headstone from Plot 8, Row E, Grave 7 at Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, France. The hall has only one window which is aligned so that, at 1100 on November 11th the headstone is illuminated by a beam of natural light (clouds permitting).
