Want really fresh
Whole Wheat Flour?
Why locals love it
Watson's Mill in the (former) Village of Mannotick still grinds wheat the way it was done in the 1860's. It is away from the crowded tourist haunts but is a nice outting for adults and children. Guided tours during the summer explain not only the process but the areas history.
Why you should visit it
The water powered mill offers a unique window on history. The Rideau River still powers one grinding wheel to produce the freshest whole wheat flour; which you can purchase in a souvenir cloth sack. The damn pond is a great place to feed the ducks with duck food made in the mill. There are also several nice shops, pubs, and boutiques in the area.
Visit during one of the milling demonstrations which take place each Sunday from 1pm – 3pm from May 21st to October 10th.
