Why locals love it

Located between Invalides and Saint-Germain-des-Prés, it's not easy to find this museum if you’ve never heard of it. It’s a small museum, especially if you compare it to the Louvre. I’ve seen two exhibitions here including “The Last Sitting” by Bert Stern (a series of photos of Marilyn Monroe) and an exhibition on the Italian Medici family.

Why you should visit it

The permanent collection features masterpieces by the artist Aristide Maillol. The temporary exhibitions are the most interesting though as they are very different. This place is definitely not on the tourist trail and is therefore much less frustrating than the Louvre.

Special tip

Rue de Grenelle is lovely – don’t hesitate to walk to the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighbourhood.
