Paris "Hidden gems"

Hello, everyone! What are some "hidden gems" you would recommend in Paris? I'm not interested in the touristic side of the city, I've already experienced it. Just imagine I'm a friend who's visiting and is not interested in seeing the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur and such :) Thank you!

Hi - not a local, but a traveler. I really liked the Promenade Plantee, which is a park that was built along the former path of a train track. Part of it is elevated, and part is actually BELOW street level; it's really just a very long, thin park, but it makes for a great walk through (and over, and sort-of-under) some lesser-visited spots of Paris.

It's the same idea as the High Line Park here in New York City, where I live. But- I like the Promenade plantee better!

Hi,

I will advise you to walk into some districts (non-touristic or kind of non-touristic) :

> Le marais (3e/4e/10e) from Republique (11e) to Beaubourg/Chatelet (1er)
You will find a lot of streetart, very good food and expensive (or not so expensive) shops.
Around the "Rue de Turenne" and in this neighbourghood, you will find a lot of Coffee shops (café spécialité), a "new" trend in Paris. If you like it, you should go to Fringe.

> Belleville (20e) and Oberkampf (11e) to Republique (11e)
You will find here a lot a ecclectic shops and a lot of Bar and Restaurant.
I love the bar Le Gürü around this area.

> The 13th : from Bibliothèque François Mitterand (13e) to Place d'Italie (13e)
One end is on the Seine, you will find a lot of restaurants, bars, clubs and a swimmingpool... directly on the Seine (on a boat, the most of the time). And it's a very new district, with modern architecture.
On the middle, it's one of asiatic districts of Paris. A lot of Streetart (if you go along the Metro 6, you will find some big buildings totally decorated), a lot of very great restaurants.
On the over side (Place d'italie), I advise you to go on the Butte aux Cailles, it's a little hiding hill with a lot of bars and restaurants. The atmosphere remind me my city (Nice). And again, a lot of streetart.

> Something to do, but touristic one : Les catacombes de paris... but brave yourself and wait 3hours...

If you like electro-ecclectique music, you should go to the Mellotron one day (https://www.lemellotron.com/2014/09/02/le-mellotron-nouveau-repaire-6-rue-beaurepaire-studio-radio-bar/). it's a bar and a webradio !

If you want to go out, see what is around (thank you Internet !), you will find a lot of things according to your taste !

But, if you check out and found a clubbing night on your taste for the Rexclub (I love the atmosphere), you should go to La régalade (little expensive, but very very good bar and restaurant).

Enjoy your travel !

Hi Elena,

To find out the "hidden jems" you have to go areas like: Le Marais, Latin Quarter, Saint Germain de Pres, Belleville, Montmartre...
I know some of this are in the list of touristy things to do, but there is so much more behind that you would imagine.
For example I like to have some tapas and wine at "L'Avant Comptoir" in Saint Germain de Pres. Maybe have a croque-monsieur at the café in front of the metro station exit from Lamarck-Coulaincourt, I think it is called "Le Refuge". Go pick up some great cheese at my friends Franck fromagerie at Ile de Saint Louis "La Cremerie", and not too far a glass of good organic wine at Herve's wineshop "L'etiquette".

If you wish to go with a local and learn more about the hidden local Paris you can book your private local guide at www.strollsparis.com

Take care and enjoy the city!
