Your personal guide will either meet you at your hotel or wait for you at the Montparnasse train station (14th district of Paris).
During the 1-hour train journey to Chartres, your guide will tell you about the rich history of the ‘capital of light and perfume’.
You’ll visit the UNESCO-listed Chartres Cathedral, home to the largest collection of medieval stained glass in the world. Here, you’ll have the chance to step on one of the last-remaining labyrinths in France, a kind of pilgrimage site built in 1200.
Your guide will share the chaotic story of Chartres and its cathedral, from the Celtic tribes to the Viking invasions, and point out myriad churches scattered all over the city.
You’ll also walk along the river Eure, which is lined with washhouses used by tanners and washerwomen in the Middle Ages.
During the day you’ll have the chance to taste the specialities of the region, such as pâté de Chartres, le Cochelin, la Poule au Pot, the local cola, and the local beer.
When the tour is over, you can either go back to Paris with your guide or continue exploring Chartres on your own.
