If you are wondering why this gentleman is holding a newspaper, it's because Jannsen was the editor of the first Estonian language newspaper. Johann Voldemar Jannsen is also known as the author of the words of Estonian anthem and the first choir festival organizer.

The statue was erected to celebrate the 150-year anniversary of the first Estonian newspaper, called Perno Postimees. Is situated in the main shopping street, so woun't miss it.
