The Shipwreck Galleries (entry by donation) offer a fascinating window into the maritime heritage of Western Australia, especially the shipwrecks of Dutch traders. A real highlight of the museum is the large preserved section of hull from the Batavia, a famous shipwreck followed by a mutiny and bloodshed off the WA coast.

This museum is home to the preserved Batavia wreck, part of which was recovered from the seafloor, and reconstructed in the museum. There is also a reconstructed steam engine - which took over 10 years to preserve and rebuild. I remember seeing it in pieces as a child.
If you have an interest in maritime archeology, it is possible to book a behind the scenes tour ... check the museum website.
