Why locals love it
Pori's Old Cemetery on the west side of Pori's old grid plan area and next to the water tower, is an impressive complex. Bounded by a stone fence, the park-like cemetery has 300 tombstones standing. Among the monuments are tin, cast iron and stone tombstones, for which classical shapes and subjects are characteristic.
Why you should visit it
There is a cast iron fence around many family graves. Pori Old Cemetery is an example of a cemetery separate from the church and the town in the early 19th century. It reflects changes not only in burial practices but also in the beauty ideals of garden art and tombstones.
Old Cemetery can be explored with a guide - see Details, or by yourself. Be respectful as there are graves on the area.
