Why locals love it

Clementinum is the second biggest complex of buildings after Prague castle. This former Jesuit college hosts one of the most beautiful libraries in the world with 20 000 old books, beautiful fresco paintings and a few historically rare globes.

Why you should visit it

Book a guided tour of the complex to see it with your own eyes and climb to the top of the Astronomical Tower for a breathtaking view of the Old Town. It is one of the best in town and the library itself is one of a kind.

Special tip

The tours are available in English and the cost of a full ticket is 300 CZK.

The ticket is now 300 CZK. They don’t allow taking photos in the library, but the views from the tower are awesome.

The prices are getting out of hand for everything. I would suggest people to go to Ukraine instead. Prague has kind of been ruined with tourists. Lviv and Kiev still are affordable and far less tourists.

This was a rip-off. They only allowed us to see the library from one sectioned off corner of the room, getting no where near close to the books or frescos or architecture. No pictures!

Hi Angelica, I am sorry you didn't like the museum. I wouldn't call it a rip-off, though. It is a very interesting place and you normally can also access the astronomical tower. They simply don't allow people in the library fully because touching the exhibits can damage them. Also cameras with flash can be harmful, I guess. But I agree with you that they could allow taking pictures without flash :(

Hi Lizzie, the complex has been recently closed for reconstruction. Hopefully it will be reopened in a couple of months.
