Here is a beautiful example of a First Republic bar, rumoured to be one of the places where Vaclav Havel plotted the demise of the Communists. Connected to an independant movie house and near one of the premier live music clubs, it serves as a great place for meeting for drinks before and after either event.
They often host events related to newly released movies in the adjoining cinema and serve both good beer, wine and specially branded coffee. It's also a great and cheap place to escape from the tourist traps of Wencelas Square.
Go for drinks, but not for food, which is mostly microwaved. If you are hungry, get the paninis, which are the best thing on that side of the menu.
