Why locals love it

This is very old and traditional rail leading through Prague. It is not only a practical connection between downtown and outskirts but also a beautiful and romantic ride. It takes you to places which not even locals know much about. This train is part of Prague public transit so you don´t need any special ticket! Just hop on!

Why you should visit it

This is an experience you wouldn´t expect in city like Prague. The train ride starts from Main Train Station and takes you to Prague suburbs. You will see downtown (panorama of Prague Castle, or Vyšehrad) and also much of Prague nature, mountains, lovely valley and lesser known Prague quarters. You will also cross 25 m high historical viaduct.

Special tip

The name Semmering is derived from the very first mountain railway in Europe - built in Austrian Alps in the 19th century.

Platform 1a on departure board look for rudna or prhay. After 30 mins get of at Zlicin. All included on a prague 24 hour ticket. Enjoy the ride on this one coach train.

Hi Alex, just to be clear, it is just for the scenic ride and back. There is nothing to see/nowhere to go once we stop at Žlicin, just get on train back to Prague?

Hello Zita, yes exactly at Zličín there is literally nothing:-) Just go back - for your way back I recommend to take a tram, it goes more often than the train. Just buy for your way back ticket (32 CZK).

Hi Anju, the train ride from Main train station to Zličín takes aprox. 30 minutes. It costs 32 CZK / one ride. If you take the regular motor train. Sometimes on weekends there are other connections which cost a bit more. But I always take the regular one where you can use the public transport tickets (32 CZK). The best is to ask at the station about the actual fares. Dana

Hello Dana, Thank you for your useful informations. Just to be sure, is a 32CZK ticket enough for a round-trip until Zličín (+ return to Praha main station) or should I buy a 40CZK ticket ? It's not very clear on PID's website. Thanks, S

Hello Markus, rather always ask the staff to make sure. This train station is huge.

At the weekend I would like to travel to the Pražský motoráček from the main train station to Zlicin. Where can I buy the ticket on the train or at the main train station at the ticket office? Tamás

Hello Alex, within Prague (from Main train station to Zličín) it is aprox.30 minutes but of course you can continue behind Prague border, however then you need a different ticket.
