Hello, Sue If you are looking for a trip in nature. I would recommend you Bohemian Switzerland or Bohemian Paradise. More cultural as Dana already said. Karlstejn Castle or Kutna Hora is a good choice as well. You can check bus or train connection in www.idos.cz

Hello Sue,

the most popular day trips from Prague are Křivoklát, Kutná Hora or Karlovy Vary. Pretty packed places during the high season (tourists + locals all together).

Some more alternative trips could be Křivoklát, Ještěd or Český Šternberk castle:-)

Have fun.
Dana
Traveling to Prague Oct 4- 9. We are a group of eight. We are not typically mainstream types and a interested in a day trip to nature, food, good beer, architecture, art. We are interested in a cool day trip but don't want to travel in a big bus tour, we don't want to spend 160 Euros each to take a hike in nature and eat and drink something out of a backpack( we do it all the time). Maybe a local driver with a mini van who knows the area....

I think, this tip is exactly something for you: https://www.likealocalguide.com/prague/bohemian-paradise :)

Take a bus from "Černý Most" (final stop of metro line B), buses operates during Summer every half an hour (after summer saison every one hour). The ride takes 1 hour. Go to Mnichovo Hradiště or Jičín and there, at main squares, look for marked touristic routes, they start at main squares and goes to nature.

and use http://mapy.cz! (here you are map of Bohemian Paradise near by Mnichovo Hradiště https://mapy.cz/s/1RKii ) Download the app and use this app offline! There are touristic marked routes.
Could you give me more details? Dates you will be here, what you are interested in (castles as opposed to chateaus), train or bus travel or hired van, how much walking, etc. There are lots of things to choose from and many small towns.
