It depends on how far out you want to go and via what transportation. My suggestion is to take the City Elephant train from Jana Masarykeho station and go to Kolin, a city east of Prague It takes about 45 minutes and costs about $4 which you can buy from the conductor on board, once you are under way. The first stop there will put you very near the square and from it you can easily get to a cathedral, archeological museum, decorative arts museum and many little shops and restaurants. Second stop is the main station and you can take a bus or walk to the square. It is on the Labe (Elbe River), too. Trains back to Prague re about every half hour.

I always say that Kolin is a mini Prague, with all the same places, except smaller. Be sure to go to the Cafe Monet on the corner of the square for cocktails or Viennese coffee. The Wiener Schnitzles are as big as the plate. If you like thrift shops, the one just off the square, near the American Hotel, has vintage crystal and porcelain at incredibly low prices, although it looks like a dump. Kutna Hora is nearby as well, the original silver mines for Czech coins.Write a reply...
