Easy Canoe Mission to the Sázava River from Prague

After 15 years of hiking, biking, climbing, and canoeing in the greater Prague area, we discovered that this is the best adventure around. Leave the city behind and lose yourself in a deep gorge full of dense forest, dramatic rocks, and little cabins built by locals during communist times.

Description

Your guide will give you detailed instructions at the beginning of the trip, and you’ll have time to try steering the canoe on flat water before getting started.

Your guide will be there for you any time you need assistance, though it’s unlikely you’ll need help after your first few strokes of your paddle.

The journey takes about 3–5 hours, including a few little breaks to breathe in the fresh, humid air. A small lunch en route is also included.

An added bonus of this trip is the train journey to the starting point. The railway cuts through rocky terrain and across some outstanding stone viaducts. If you don’t have a head for heights, you better not lean out the window!

You don’t need any special gear for this trip. In case of very low temperatures and rainy weather, we recommend wearing a wetsuit, which we provide upon request.

Adventure on the river
Martin our guide called in the morning to confirm he was on the way and for the whole of the day he was a brilliant host, guide and helper. He picked us up at the hotel and off we went. The drive out of town took us through the suburbs and out to the villages around Prague. Stopping for a coffee and patisserie on the way we arrived at the river ready for the adventure down the river. After a short practice paddle we where off. And what a beautiful day we had. Paddling down stream we where soon feeling like real adventures as we steered our canoe through the flow of the water, we shared the river with ducks and herons, taking in the beautiful views as we navigated the twists and turns down stream. We even caught a glimpse of a wild piggy on the river bank. Stopping for a hearty and delicious lunch in a local village pub we got to chat about the days adventure before our trip home. A great day out we would recommend to everyone.
