Urban Adventures: Merry Markets Christmas Tour of Prague

Christmas markets hold a special place in the hearts of Europeans, and for good reason. From the illuminated Old Town and wooden stands showcasing handmade goods to the smell of roasted nuts, properly spiced mulled wine, gingerbread, and cut pine – we’ve got it all!
Duration 2.5 hours
Private tour pricing from 45 EUR per person
Group tour available in English
Not all ChristKindl Markets are created equal - Urban Adventures has filtered out the unworthy and highlighted the best of Christmas in Prague. Our highlights were tasting authentic Czech holiday treats and hearing stories about making them at home, having the top rated Gluhwein (hot wine) in Prague - which we both agreed was better than anything we had in Germany, and seeing the best markets in town. The Christmas market tour is shorter, yet packed with great info and insights - would happily go on another tour with Misa!

Highlights

Visit Prague’s main Christmas market as well as two other Christmas markets outside the city centre

Sip on mulled wine and hot mead while snacking on cheese from a grill, roasted nuts, and other delicious Christmas treats

Discover what a hedgehog (yes, a hedgehog!) has to do with Christmas in Czech, and why Santa doesn’t come here

Learn about Czech Christmas traditions before and after the 1989 revolution

See a nativity scene in a grand church that’s said to rival the spectacular St Vitus Cathedral

Description

After meeting at Jungmann Square, we’ll hop on the metro and escape the bustle of the centre to experience our first market, where you’ll taste mulled wine and sample a Christmas snack.

As we eat and explore, you’ll learn about our holiday traditions (the Christmas carp, for example). You’ll also find out what baby Jesus has to do with a little hedgehog, why there’s no Santa in this part of the world, and what Christmas means in our secular nation.

You’ll discover that locals in Prague have a lot of holiday traditions that are very different from what you’d expect!

Next, we’ll wander along some of Prague’s beautiful streets to our second Christmas market, where you’ll be greeted with hot mead and roasted almonds. Here, we'll take a moment to point out some of the best places for you to visit during your stay.

We’ll then make our way back to the city centre, where you’ll learn about Christmas before, during, and after the 1989 revolution, and about our beloved former President, Havel.

At our third stop, you’ll be seeing the market that put Prague on the Christmas map. It’s here that our tour will end; we’ll leave you at the Old Town Square to explore to your heart’s content!
