Because it is still a residential neighborhood where local families live and has preserved the Cultural Heritage and Architecture along the Junín Street. This is one of the oldest parishes of Quito founded around 1580 by the Spaniards.

Walking down the Junín street is like visiting a Museum of Architecture in the open air, because there are houses dating back 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900 and modern. Andalusian Spanish houses with interior courtyards, Neo-Classical 19th century mansions, a Baroque church and Eclectic mansions combine with arts and culture.
Manuela Sáenz Museum, Watercolor Museum and the Museum of Architecture are some of the spots for discovering the Cultural Heritage of San Marcos.
