The church of La Merced receives many devoted people in holy mass everyday and in the surroundings of its square there are many shops. this is a bustling area for traders, walkers, tourists and preachers. The square in front of the church is always busy.

The Mercedarians arrived in 1534 and built a church that was destroyed and 1700 they could finally to construct this basilica that was set over the ruins of an Inca temple.
