This is one of the oldest churches of Quito, designed by the Spanish architect Francisco Becerra in 1581. the church is is visited by devoted people in every celebration of the Holy Mass. The chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary has a lot of devoted people coming for praying. The square is the scenario of street artists.
The austere facade of the convent and church contrasts with the Neo-Gothic interior. The Moorish coffered ceiling of the central nave is simply stunning! The chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary was a gift given by the Emperor Charles V in the 16th century.
