With its 5897 meters, this is the highest active snow capped volcano in the world and the second in Ecuador after the Chimborazo. The landscape around is very similar to that of the moon. You can see wild horses introduced several years ago and also native animals such as wolves or white-tiled deer, as well as several Andean birds.

A huge valley formed after the last eruption around 2.200 years ago! There is a community of farmers living inside the crater which is dormant. At noon you can see how the clouds come up from the bottom of the cloud forest and cover all the setting. There is a viewpoint, a market and some trails for biking, hiking or horse riding!

This is one of the stunniest Pre-Columbian cemeteries found in Ecuador with a very nice display of the 15 meters tomb-pits. In one of them, the archaeologists of the Metropolitan Institute of Cultural Heritage made a reconstruction of the tomb with the mummies. The faces of this people were reconstructed and also the astonishing "ponchos".
