This is the most impressive and massive religious building of the Historical Center of Quito. This is one of the most famous postcards of the city and its towers a reference for every local. This has been a meeting place for locals since Inca times.

Founded in 1535, inside the monastery of San Francisco, Flemish priests Joost van Rijcke and Peter Gosseal founded the first School of Arts and Crafts of the Americas, named Saint John the Evangelist, now converted into an astonishing museum with the finest collection of Quito's Colonial arts.
Don't miss the choir and the impressive 16th century Moorish wooden ceiling.
