Jacinto Jijón y Caañaño was a wealthy man whose hobby was the archaeology and history. He traveled to Europe and in 1922 invited the German Max Uhle to investigate about Pre-Columbian Ecuador. Caamaño is considered as one of the founders of Ecuadorian modern archaeology. His family donated all his collection to the Catholic University.
This is a very nice museum located in the Cultural Center of the Catholic University of Ecuador. They renovated all the exhibits and now you have a more interactive place with explanations about archaeology, as well as art, furniture and documents that were part of the collections of this historian.
Remember that you need to present your ID at the entrance of the university.
