This palace is located in the intersection of the avenues 10 de Agosto and Colon. This is one of the postcards of the La Mariscal District and the origin of this neighborhood in 1892. The gardens are decorated with unicorns and fountain and inside the mansion is the National Institute of Cultural Heritage and the Metropolitan Archive of History.
This was the first palace built in the outskirts of the Historical District by the wealthy industrialist and historian Jacinto Jijón y Caamaño in 1892. The author was the German architect Francis Schmidt. This was the residence of the family until 1950s when the Jijón started donating some properties and sold the mansion to the city hall.
Don't miss a visit to the Metropolitan Archive of History and ask for permission to get into the main mansion to see the impressive shield's room.
