Monastery of San Diego3
Why locals love it
San Diego is one of the oldest monasteries built by the Franciscan monks in 1599. Next to the monastery there is the oldest cemetery of the city and there is the legend of the 17th century priest Manuel de Almeida, one of the most enigmatic in the popular belief.
Why you should visit it
The church boasts a blend of cultures mixing Pre-Columbian sun worshiping with Spanish Catholicism and Moorish influence. Gaze the coffered ceiling in the church and the 17th century woodcarved Christ of the Sacristy. During the visit is possible to know cellars, refectory, kitchen and the old bakery.
Don't miss the pulpit in the church, the painting of the Last Supper and the skeletons in the grave.
