Why locals love it
Monjas-Orquídeas is a mid-class neighborhood located on the slopes of a mountain at the edge of a canyon where the Machángara river pass by. This is still a place were hummingbirds like to come and drink water. This used to be a paradise of orchids, but now is crowded, although peaceful.
Why you should visit it
The geography is stunning! The views of Quito is unbelievable with houses and buildings hanged on the cliffs. The house belongs to local painter Paco Viñachi who converted every room in an art gallery where you can admire his artwork made in oil, watercolor or even petroleum. He has identified 7 species of hummingbirds that everyday come here.
Ask for a tour to a park designed by him with statues made of recycled materials.
