We’ll encounter the birthplace of the Icelandic nation at Thingvellir, as well as the site of the first Viking parliament. Established in 930 AD, Althingi is the oldest still-existing parliament in the world. Thingvellir is also one of the spots where we can appreciate more clearly the forces shaping our planet. As the tectonic plates spread apart, a new crust is being created.

Gullfoss isn’t the largest waterfall in Iceland nor is it the tallest, but it is without a doubt one of the prettiest ones. That's saying a lot for a country with as many waterfalls as Iceland.

And Geysir's reputation precedes "him"; the gusher that gave name to the phenomenon doesn't need much of an introduction. His neighbour, Strokkur, will blow steam high in the air every 5–10 minutes for our delight.

We’ll also take a short break in the town of Hveragerdi to see a small exhibition about a 6.3–6.6-magnitude earthquake that took place there in 2008.

The waterfall at Faxi is included in the tour, too. It’s smaller than Gullfoss, but very beautiful in the morning light. We'll also try to stop to admire the famous Icelandic horses.
