Iceland South Coast Day Tour from Reykjavík

Driving south on Route 1, we'll introduce you to the geology, history and folklore of Iceland. We’ll stop at the magnificent Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls and, depending on the weather conditions, Iceland’s newest star – the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which erupted in 2010.
Duration 10 hours
Private tour pricing from 100 EUR per person
Group tour available in English
Just completed the GeoIceland tour of the South Coast! It was amazing!!! Our guide, Thor, was brilliant and able to offer us a huge amount of knowledge on Iceland and each stop we had. I have done other tours however this one was by far the best, it felt more relaxed than the to other tours and we were able to spend the perfect amount of time at each stop. 100% recommend it!!!

Highlights

Visit the Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls

Discover the Reynisfjara black sand beach and maybe see some puffins

Walk right up to the edge of the Sólheimajökull glacier

Description

Pick up is from 08:30–09:00, from accommodations in the Reykjavík area. We offer daily departures all year round.

Following the coastline, we'll take a detour to a beautiful black sand beach called Reynisfjara. There we can get close to basalt columns and enjoy the view of a group of sea stacks. Puffins also nest in this area during the summer.

Another sight on the south coast is the small town of Vik, where we'll stop for lunch. Depending on the weather, timing and number of people, we may instead have lunch by the black sand beach at Reynisfjara. The gastronomic selection beyond Reykjavík is one of a sparsely populated country, so don’t expect any fancy restaurants.

After admiring the breathtaking beauty of Reynisfjara’s coastal scenery, we’ll head towards the Sólheimajökull glacier. It’s one of the outlets of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. We’ll walk right up to the edge of the glacier and you’ll get to touch it. We may even find an ice cave.

In winter the weather may be extremely icy, windy and cold, so warm clothing is recommended.

Excellent South Coast Tour
The South Coast tour guide was well organized, well informed (a native of the islands off the south coast), and kindly. The Mercedes minivan was clean and comfortable. Highly recommend Geoiceland for the South Coast tour.
Spectacular day visiting glacier, waterfalls and more
We did the South Coast Tour, an action-packed tour to glaciers, waterfalls, a black beach and so much more. Lots of chances to hike, walk and gaze. Our driver/guide David (anglo version of his real name) was charming and full of wonderful stories and personal stories that made the day even better. Good to go on small bus. Loved this day and will do a second tour with Geoiceland this week.
