Old buildings turned into bars?

A couple years ago I read about a big old house that was turned into a bar-disco. I'd like to visit it, but I don't know where it is. It'd be nice to know about other houses or buildings turned into bars or restaurants that are worth visiting (I read here about a brewery).

Hey, Mark!

There are quite a few in Riga! I think you are talking about Kaņepes kultūras centrs or Autentika. They are 2 blocks away from each other. Quite near is also the brewery Labietis.

You should also check out Aleponija (truly a hidden gem).

There are two spots you could check - one is Kaņepes Kultūras Centrs or KKC for short (https://www.likealocalguide.com/riga/kanepes-kulturas-centrs), it's located in an old wooden building that once was a music school.
Another interesting place would be the Labietis brewery (https://www.likealocalguide.com/riga/labietis-brewery), it's located in a quarter with many old buildings with bars/clubs/discos in them.

New and interesting palce in Tallinas kvartāls (entrance from Miera Street in front of Rocket Bean Roastery). In soviet times there used to be an ambulance depot. Now this place has been given to Free Riga movement who move in abandoned houses (legally) and do creative things there. Now there is a bar Tallinas Pagalms https://m.facebook.com/TallinasPagalms/ and a concert venue Tu jau zini kur (they will have a theatre play in English on 29 Nov).

It sounds like Kanepes, although it's not at all a disco. It's more of a bar/ arts club/ club. Some people think it's shabby/ dirty. Personally, I think it's a really good place.
