Hi Riga locals!
I am planning a trip to Riga in June and have noticed that our stay includes the days of the Midsummer festival. Is this a good time to visit? Will a lot of places be closed?
Thanks so much

Hi! Usually the June 24 is a day when rarely anything will be open. Maybe some restaurants and bars. Because this is our national holiday. But it is definitely a good time when to come if you want to feel what is Midsummer fest here - a lot of fun and events everywhere! I would come during that time if you don't want just visit museums or etc as I mentioned - they will be closed on 23 and 24. of June.
Enjoy Latvia and Riga! :)

Midsummer festival or as we call it "Jāņi". Some places will be closed, most places might have shortened work day. The city will be quite empty, as we love to grab a couple cases of beer, head out of the city grill meat, make cold soup, drink beer, swim and jump over the fire.

There we will be some events in the city, but at least 60-70% get away to the country side.

Hi, I love you I get are very beautiful
Riga is midsummer still has some activities for the city dwellers and capitalism has over taken certain traditions, so places will operate where tourists / money are present. You may want head out to one of the smaller towns around Latvia for a more rural event. 99% of the people I know leave the city. Get a tent, head to the beach.
