My kids aren't interested in visiting museums or old buildings. What do you recommend?

We also like to eat tasty but inexpensive foods. Any suggestions?

Can we find someone who can show us around the city? We just want ordinary folks, not local guides.

Hi! I suggest to visit city named Sigulda there is “mežakaķis”! Also suggest to visit Mežaparks in riga. There is a zoo and a great park full of activitiea for both kids and their parents. From family restaurants I suggest “Hercogs” and restorant “laivas” in Jurmala. If you visit Jurmala, I suggest to visit Dzintari ( there is a giant park for kids and parents! Have a nice stay!

If you'd like to try some Latvian authentic food and have a place for children and you to enjoy activity vise, you'd love LIDO. It's a Latvian cuisine restaurant (buffet style) and has a theme park with many attractions around it, like rollerblading/ice-skating, toy hippodrome, children car driving school etc.
It's not the cheapest option, but altogether not expensive either.
Enjoy Riga!

As for eating - a nice and very popular place is Tokyo City - http://www.tokyocity.lv/ - but on Tērbatas 2, there you can ask to give you trthe table which is not far from children room. The room is not very big, but there are things to do and it is comfortable when you are with kids.
Riga Zoo can be a place where kids might like and there are also activities for kids: http://www.rigazoo.lv/public/
If the weather turns not to be good one, kids will love Jumpspace and they will be able to use their energy in jumping :) http://jumpspace.lv/
In Riga Plaza http://www.rigaplaza.lv/ on the 2nd floor also is the activity place where you can leave kids even all day long and they will interact with locals and have fun (in case weather is not good and you have to think what to do).
If weather is great kids will love the new playground 110A, Krišjāņa Barona iela - see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9xAcLZq6is - there are a lot of things to be done as well as Lucavsala: https://www.liveriga.com/lv/7306-lucavsala

Hi! I'm a guide and I'm also ordinary person, like all guides are. I can recommend you to use professional guide as it is much better, very interesting and more quality experience rather than "ordinary folks". About kids - many museums have interesting tool kits for children (for example, Latvian National Art Museum) which makes their experience more exciting. If you don't want to educate your children in the arts and culture yet, then you can visit Motor Museum (kids usually like it), or newly opened playground on Kr. Barona iela. Have a great time in Riga! Liga

Hi, How old are your kids?
There is the vintage car museum (also outside of the centre). Plus - for older kids, interested in history, there is the Corner House, former KGB headquarters. Be warned, it is a heavy, dark experience!
Go up St. Peter's church in the old city for a good view. Also for a great view, check out top floor of Radisson on Brivibas St (technically a cocktail bar, but go early for a family friendly atmosphere)
Food in general is not overly expensive in Riga and usually of very high standard. There is a thread here "where can i find cheap and tasty food" for you to explore. Not on the list is Vairak Saules - which is a sit-down restaurant with speedy service for restless kids (and a kids corner with crayons), they serve a wide variety of dishes, all reasonably priced. Several locations in the city.

Vairāk Saules is a great suggestion for food as well as if you go to the place that is located in the center Dzirnavue iela 60, there is a wonderful place for kids to play on the first floor. Kids love there and parents can calmly eat and enjoy the evening.
Dzirnavu iela 60 (sorry for the mistake)
Hi! For visit with chirdren I can suggest to go to Brīvdabas museum. It is wide territory with latvian traditional house, handcraft. Children can run and play there. But is a bit far from center.
