we were taken around by Liga. She was fantastic. We were a hen party of 11 and Liga was so thoughtful to work some anecdotes on Latvian wedding traditions and even had a small gift for the bride.

The tour should have finished at two but it ran over a little and Liga was really patient and stayed with us.

The actual content of the tour was fascinating and we learnt a lot about architecture and sime great stories from the history of Riga.

Description

Your tour begins in charming Old Riga, where the centuries-old buildings speak extensively about Latvian culture – one of the oldest living cultures in the world. Here you’ll hear stories of exciting times in this beautiful city’s history, discover the most picturesque sights, see major monuments (such as the House of the Blackheads, the Three Brothers, and St Peter’s Church), and hear interesting stories about what makes Riga so special.

After a short coffee break with a traditional Latvian pastry, you’ll head to the remarkable art nouveau district. It features art nouveau masterpieces on almost every street corner. You’ll learn what the symbols hidden on the stunning façades mean, discover the location of the most beautiful staircase in the city, and visit other special places that only the locals know about.

The tour ends with tastings of typical local food at the art deco and neoclassical Central Market.

Note that this tour involves a lot of walking (approximately 8 kilometres). Please let us know if you have any medical conditions or would like a shorter tour. Also - this is not a typical food tour! We only spend in the market 30-50 minutes.

Very knowledgable guide
Liga showed us around. She was a wonderful guide. It was freezing cold out and we warmed up a couple of times indoors at her suggestion.
She had a very extensive knowledge of the history and culture of Riga and was determined to share as much of it as possible. It was great value for money.
I would definitely recommend this tour with her.
Thank you again Liga.
Great tour
We had a great time with our guide Edit who was very knowledgeable in everything about Riga. Thank you! We can absolutely recommend this walking tour.
Great overview of Riga
Best thing about this tour is it gets you beyond the Old Town! Good knowledge during the walk through Old Town, out to the Art Nouveau district, and then around the huge central market including tasting some different types of local produce.
Highly recommended.

Very interesting and a must!
We had a great guide who new so much and spoke English very well. This tour is a mist when you come to Riga; you will learn so much interesting and fascinating things that you never would have on your own. Reccomend :-)
Rain didn’t stop us
This is the only day raining out of my 4 days in Riga. But the rain didn’t stop us from touring the beautiful Riga. Our guide Liga took care of us and suggested breaks in between. She is so knowledgeable and she shared her own experience of participating in Baltic way 30 years ago when she was a child. She is very passionate about her culture and traditions. I learned a lot details from her which I didn’t notice the last 2 days walking around by myself.

Great tour that you should not miss!
We were lucky to have a nice lady as tour guide who could tell the history of Latvia and Riga in a pleasant way, An mix of facts, places tot show and her own experience. For us it was a highlight of our trip!
Excellent coverage of a difficult subject.
I booked this tour as I wanted to find out more about the reality of living in a Soviet satellite state and it was everything I had hoped for.

Lisa is an excellent guide and had clear memories of living through the transition to independence in the early 1990s, as well as family anecdotes from the ww2 period which brought home the horrors of living through wartime occupations.

As this was a private tour we could indulge ourselves in additional discussions about other Riga issues, so covered many other interesting areas like the Orthodox Cathedral and the new State Library, finishing up at the memorial to those who were deported to Siberia during the Russian occupation in the 1940s.

Highly recommended, if this is a subject that interests you.
Really nice, off the beaten track tour
Really nice, off the beaten track tour that covers some alternative routes of the recent history of Riga.
Totally recommended :)
