Description

Riga is the art nouveau capital of the world, with more than one third of the city centre constructed in this revolutionary style. Besides introducing you to countless beautiful buildings, this tour gives you the chance to learn about different types of art nouveau and how the style changed from the late 19th century to the outbreak of WWI.

Find out whether the city’s art nouveau buildings were a demonstration of wealth and different ideologies, or built out of pure necessity for the rapidly growing population of Riga – the most industrial and wealthy Baltic city of the early 20th century.

We can pick you up from your hotel, or you can meet us at our office – just let us know your preference when booking.

This Art Nouveau tour is a must-do for any Art Nouveau / architecture lover.
We did this walk on our first day in Riga and so it gave us the perfect opportunity to discover and understand how this style developed and shaped the city and what was the historical, social and cultural context at the time.
This walk was informative and extremely pleasant as our guide alternatively used technical, historical and cultural explanations as well as funny anecdotes flavoured with a pinch of British humour.
He also provided us with many useful tips on other complementary / "off track" places to explore .. but also where to eat !

We booked a guided tour of the Art Nouveau district with knowledgeable guide James who told us all there is to know about the district, and while walking about we also got an insight into life in Latvia. James was very receptive to our demands, and also showed us to some true gems for vintage lovers like us!

I highly recommend E.A.T. Riga Tours to anyone visiting Riga. You will not get a better and more personal guiding experience!

We decided to book the art nouveau tour as we know that really to appreciate art, you need to know something more than just that it is pretty. Artus was our guide. It was all we had wished for and more. We walked to many examples of the AN architecture, more than just the one street that is most famous for it. Besides being incredibly informative about AN, Artus also showed us examples of other types of architecture specific to Riga and we talked about the history of Riga as presented by the architecture. Artus is particularly passionate about all things Riga. As we walked along, we talked about schools, employment, geography, economics, etc. It was a wonderful way to get to know life in Riga beyond the tourist stop. We finished our visit with a visit to the central market and an urban picnic. It was just my husband and I and Artus. Well worth the time and cost. GREAT experience!

Agnes was the perfect guide!
Our guide instantly understood the interests of our group - we didn't only go to shops, but saw bits of Riga we wouldn't have discovered on our own. Agnes has very good history knowledge, but she doesn't overkill you with information. Also, she had a very good energy, sense of humor and excellent English, so we thoroughly enjoyed our 3hr walking tour and didn't notice the time pass so fast! She also suggested us a perfect lunch place (Galerija Istaba) and conveniently ended our tour nearby. All in all, 10 out 10 experience, thank you Agnes!
Great tour
We were a party of 4, first time in Riga, and found the tour to be very enjoyable. Agnes had a wealth of knowledge and a great sense of humour. We found the tour to be interesting and were glad we took part. It was good to hear all the history behind the Central Market and the history of the Latvian people and their relationship with food. Would recommend this tour, especially for those first time visitors.
Perfect bike tour showing gems a bit outside from the city center.
