Why locals love it

This staircase was all created by a single artist, over years of daily work. It's covered up in tiles that came from all over the world. The artist lived by the staircase and made it as a love declaration to the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Why you should visit it

It's a great place for taking pictures! You can spend hours going up and down the stairs, in awe by this delicate artwork. Also, this place isn't very known by foreigners, so many people come to Rio and never discover it.

Special tip

You can make a personalized tile with your own photo at the staircase

Simon, Besides the map, I also give you a special tip: the staircase is between two famous neighbors in Rio: Santa Tereza and Lapa. You can access the staircase from anyone of them. If you're going from Santa Tereza, it's a bit more difficult to find it. Ask where is the staircase (in Portuguese, it's called Escadaria Selarón) or the Santa Teresa Nunnery (the staircase is next to the nunnery). If you're going from Lapa, you can ask where is the staircase. Or just find the street Teotônio Regadas and walk until the end of it.
