Rome's museum of contemporary art

Macro

Why locals love it

In 2011 this majestic building was transformed into a big museum for contemporary art. Come here for the modern art exhibitions or to simply enjoy a coffee at the hyped bar, or a meal at the fashionable restaurant.

Why you should visit it

Macro is housed in a disused Peroni beer plant nestled amongst 19th-century apartment buildings. The main part of the museum was designed by the French architect Odile Decq. With mirrored walls, translucent plastic sinks and neon/UV colours, it feels like an amusement park!

Special tip

It has a good bookshop.
