Why locals love it

Venturing underground to visit the catacombs is an experience not to be missed. With narrow alleys, chapels, stairways and arches, it’s as if you’re walking through a mini subterranean city. These early burial grounds hold huge historical and religious significance, and while they’re a little bit macabre, they’re also amazing.

Why you should visit it

Few people know that there are more than 60 catacombs in Rome. The most famous ones include San Sebastiano, San Callisto, Domitilla and Priscilla. These underground passages abound with sculptures, frescoes and epigraphs, offering invaluable insight into the rites and customs of the early Church years.

Really bad experience. I understand and respect the historical importance of it but it is really hard to find where you should go or what you should when you get there. The taxi ride was expensive and you have to call for another one to go back which is odd. We wasted a lot of time and money and didn't find anything interesting (must have - but we didn't managd to find any of it). Not recommended.
