Spend a couple of hours learning the ancient art of mosaic making! Following an introduction to Roman mosaic techniques, you’ll practise the principles of texture, composition and marble tile cutting to create your own piece of mosaic to take home.

My husband and I visited Studio Cassio during our first day in Rome and it was incredible! We had a private lesson with Uliana. She was an excellent teacher- very patient and accommodating. She explained the art of mosaic to us and showed us the tools that are used. We did ancient mosaics using black and white marble (although I had red marble in mine- it's pretty but much harder to cut). I did a dragon like animal mosaic and my hubby did a wave design. She let us know that some of the black and white marble may be from ancient sites like Pompeii or the Vatican, since the studio has done restorations there. We worked on our pieces for several hours and at the end of our time we had a wonderful piece of artwork for each of us to take home. This was one of our most favorite memories from all our travels in Italy in July and the mosaics are keepsakes that we will always treasure. Thank you Uliana for such a great experience! We will visit again if we have the chance to return to Rome!

This workshop will begin with an introduction to Roman mosaic techniques and history. Afterwards, you’ll practise the principles of texture, composition and marble tile cutting to create your own piece of mosaic to take home.
