Our guide (Fabio) was a consummate professional and worked well with our small group of 3 adults. He explained everything very well, accommodated all of our questions, looked for feedback and comments, and was very accommodating of taking minor stops and starts, He had a deep understanding of the Vatican and the art inside and was able to give a rich history of the art, how it was made, and why it was significant.

Description

The Vatican Museums house an enormous collection of art masterpieces. My itinerary focuses on the most important areas of the Museums: the Pigna and Ottagono Courtyards.

From here, the route takes us to the Gallery of the Candelabra, the Gallery of Tapestries, and then to the Gallery of Maps. Next, we’ll see one of the most important examples of Renaissance art, the rooms that Raffaello painted for Julius II.

We’ll then visit the apartments of the Pope Alexander VI Borgia, whose rooms still house a rich collection of contemporary art, followed by Michelangelo's masterpiece: the Sistine Chapel.

St Peter’s Basilica, one of the oldest churches in the world, will be the last stop on our tour. Today, it’s a precious treasure trove of artworks, including Pietà by Michelangelo, and St Peter's Baldachin by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Fabio immediately transported us into the history of the Vatican and its cultural heritage. Our American guests were very impressed with the depth of his knowledge and his eagerness to share it. We are looking forward to another day exploring Rome with him and completing our education ...
