30 Best Local Tours in Rome

Dinner with Francesca and Pasquale was delicious and interesting. It was a tiny bit hard to find the right door to their building, but Francesca came out on her porch and called down to us, so we found it in the end. How nice it was to have a home cooked meal - we tried many new flavors and ingredients (such as a fresh raw curly chicory salad with anchovy dressing, whole Roman artichokes, a fava bean salad, and some soft green olives that were utterly distinctive and new to us!) and although our hosts were half our age, we had plenty to talk about. It was a very relaxing evening and I'm so glad we did it. Francesca was very good at answering questions in advance via email, and she was very, very helpful in general about things we wanted to do in Rome (especially vintage shopping!)

We met up with Francesca and Pasquale the next afternoon down in the Ripa (I think it was Ripa, anyway) neighborhood of Rome where we piled into their little car and drove out of the city. We went to the hill town of Frascati, and had we not gotten a late start, we'd have seen Carnivale in the charming little town's square. As it was, we saw the aftermath and confetti covered the cobblestones. We looked in on the churches, and also enjoyed the high vantage view of Rome in the valley below. We had a drink and a snack at a local pub, then we drove to Grottaferrata to a restaurant called L'Asino D'Oro (the golden ass/donkey) where we enjoyed some tasty regional cuisine and wine - it was relaxed, slow paced, and felt like a very authentic experience. And that was exactly what we were looking for! Thank you both! :)

Pier was super chill, fun and professional. He's also knowledgeable and passionate about Frascati/Castelli Romani. We liked him a lot. My husband and I also really liked the tour. It was a quick ride into the Termini Station from the city center of Rome, then 20 mins via a very quiet, clean train to Frascati. It's completely different than Rome. It's very serene and little to no tourists. Its also very, very beautiful. The tour starts off a little slow at a Church but I must say, the wine that can be purchased there that's made by the Monks, is the best wine ever. It's literally only 3.50 euros also. I wish we grabbed more!!! Be sure to get some and support the smaller towns that have a hard time competing with the big city, Rome. After Frascati, we drove to Castelli Romani which was my fave. Very beautiful!! My hubs and I are already planning to return and stay there. We stopped at several local places, which we loved. We tried so many foods we usually wouldn't and loved all of it. We went home with most of it, along with more vino! We ended at my favorite place of all which was lunch at an old farmhouse winery. It was a true, true Italian experience. It was beautiful and we learned how to be pro winers. We had a wonderful meat and cheese platter and several free wines to compliment the food. The pasta was to die for. Everyone was great to us and we loved their dog!!!! It was just what the doctor ordered after a busy busy stay in Crazy Rome! Thank you Pier!!!!!! We loved it and won't forget it!!

We booked a last minute tour to Castelli Romani and Pier accommodated us in a friendly manner. The communication was smooth and he made us feel welcomed. He customed the tour according to our desire: more walking, time for photos. We spent more than 3hours but he did not mind at all.
We saw beautiful villages from this area, an unique church, Pope's summer house, amazing views over the lakes, we had a coffee and delicious strwaberries.
He was really nice showing us Frascati, his home town( best pizza place, the oldest city oven). He took time to have lunch with us even that was not part of the schedule.
After the tour communication and recommendation with other nice places were much appreciated.

We traveled through Europe for 2 weeks and ended it in Rome. We went on over 7 tours during our time in Italy and none of them were nearly as good as Pier’s Night Tour. He really made our last night in Rome Magical. He went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed ourselves.
Seeing Rome during the day is nice but seeing it at night is something so different and magical. Pier was the perfect tour guide who made you feel like we were friends visiting each other and showing us around his city.
I promise you, you won’t regret taking the Night Tour with Pier. In my option he should be charging a lot more for his service, he was that good!

We did this on our last day in Rome and it was the perfect way to finish off our time in Rome. Pier shows you around and explains the history of it. It did not feel like a tour guide it was more like a friend showing us around. He even took us right to our train stop and was patient and calm. I really loved this tour and I highly recommend anyone who wants to do it. You see so much and the process of getting to frascati is so easy and coming back is easy too because Pier explains everything well. I loved it and it was a great way to finish by time in Rome.

Pier met us promptly at the meeting point and provided a tour of Rome which one can not see during the day. We visited many places where the larger tourist crowds would not go or did not know about. Pier provided a wealth of history, during our tour, and suggestions regarding additional activities, food, and more. We had the opportunity to take many photographs and it was evident that touring guests, at night, was a passion for Pier. If you want to see a different and "Magical" side of Rome, take this tour!!!!

Francesca i the perfect host. She lets you visit her in her home, invites two other really nice friends and serves fantastic food. And we got the best tips for restaurants and what to see.

The great thing about the evening was the possibility to learn more about living in Rome/Italy, at a personal level. We talked about differences between our countries, food, culture, politics, music and so much more.

Our day trip to Castelli Romani was very well organized. We visited many different lovely small towns. The views were very beautiful, the wine delicious and the food excellent. Pier was a really good guide, a real local. He spoke about local life and circumstances as well as more general topics. We are especially grateful for the tips he gave us to spend time later.

I would recommend this tour to others as well, and the next time I come to Rome, I will definitely go back to Castelli Romani.

Frascati is just 30min from Rome by train, but you are transported to a serene, fresh and beautiful area. We were lucky to have Pier showing us the area in his charming Mercedes. The sights were wonderful: lake Nemi and its ships, the summer residence of the Pope, and the lazy Frascati cats. Pier brought us to a nice place to relax with some wine, cheese and bread with olive oil and black truffle. Pier is not just a guide, but like a friend showing you around when you visit.

As a tour guide I always know what to expect from other guides ,but Pier was nice surprise .I travelled in Rome with my friend and I think that we started to explore Rome it's history, it's wine and it's delicious food when we met Pier- Local guide in Rome. He is very . Flexible , helpful ,passionate and enthusiastic, he loves his city and knows the history . Also knows all the local places where you can find not typical souvenirs and taste wine and pasta. Highly recommend

We looked for something unique, not just a tour of the Colosseum and the normal stuff that everyone sees. It was the best tour we took part in. The guide was unbelievable, with knowledge that doesn't end. He is a true Roman and you can tell he loves his town. He also speaks English fluently, and it is easy to understand him. We ended the tour in the BEST caffe in rome! I would have never come across this bar without our guide!

Very nice guy, very knowledgeable. He will show you another side of Rome: a quiet, small, cozy city. Also, many tips about local restaurants, pubs, cafes and things to do around / outside the city.

My husband and I booked this dinner for our second day in Rome. When we arrived at Francesca we are stunned from the food smell and the beautiful design. Francesca cooked really delicious food and she hosted us with her partner Pasqello. we had such a good evening with them. they opened for us two bottles of great white wine. We had a nice conversation and really loved to be with them. I really recommend this meal. it was an amazing experience.

Francesca and Pasquale were great hosts! The meal was so well thought out and prepared perfectly. It really gave us a taste of how the locals eat in Rome. We got to try several local cheeses, as well as produce that is specific to the area. And the fresh pasta was amazing too! I would really recommend this to other people. Also, don't let the distance from city center discourage you because it was a very easy bus ride to get to her apartment.

Pier is really nice guy, we went for a dinner in an authentic traditional restaurant, we had delicious pasta in a warm atmosphere, then we went walking through Rome in the night , we really loved Trastevere, Pier knows a lot of interesting and funny stories about Rome, then he showed us a special place with a unique atmosphere of ancient time...

Pier was a wonderful tour guide. My husband and I loved every moment of this special tour of Castelli Romani and the villages around. We have made a pact to come back to Italy to stay near lake albano. The villages the food the wine the views. In a word just stunning. Pier made it so special too taking us to a very historic taverna and tasting the frascati. It was all so lovely. Do yourself a favour and do this tour!

Pierre was a great guy who was really informative about the area. The trip gave us a different perspective on Rome and was the highlight of our first time trip to Rome. The visit to the farmhouse vineyard was the icing on the cake and comes highly recommended. Booking was easy and Pierre kept us up to date right up to the day of the trip as well as providing directions and info about train times.

I took this tour on my last night in Rome and I think it was a really cool way to end my time in the city. Michele was my guide and he was very informative and explained the crime events that took place really well, with a lot of detail and passion. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city as it gives a different perspective of Rome. I loved every moment of it!

Francesca and Pasquale were great hosts for our dinner at their cute and cozy home. They provided not only tips on what to do and where to go in Rome, but also great conversation and a delicious Italian meal lovingly created by hand. The dinner is a great way to see a side of Rome you might not get if you stick to the tourist traps, so definitely check it out!

Since it was our last day in Italy, it was the nicest way to visit those beautiful villages. Pierpaolo is nice and speaks a really good french! He will bring you in some cute alleys, throught the history of this region. At some time, we had the feeling that we were really enjoying the italian life, at its best. My mom and I totally recommand this tour.
