It's really hidden, and the interior is truly not the prettiest, but the food makes up for all this. The menu is small, because everything is freshly prepared on order. Only regional and seasonal ingredients are used by a skilled team that has worked on cruises before, and you can clearly taste the high quality that comes out of that.

The Salsarico is famous among students and young locals for its reasonably priced drinks and food. It's a great place to celebrate birthdays, hen parties, or exams (no matter if passed or failed). Consequentially, the atmosphere is quite cheerful, which means it can get pretty noisy.

The historical restaurant is located in a pretty red building with Hanseatic gables. Inside, it feels a bit as if you are on a ship. You can hardly find any restaurant that feels more maritime! And you can feel the history inside. The bar originates from the first opening more than 150 years ago!

This is the place to go for a 'special' dinner - not in the fancy manner, though. Stepping into the Petrikeller means stepping into the Middle Ages. The theme is kept throughout the evening, including the setting, the scene, the menu, the waitresses clothes and speech, and the manner of eating: with your bare hands.

This is one of my favourite restaurants and a personal tip. The food is amazing! They menu is innovative and creative, and everything is made from fresh and regional ingedrients, consequentially they offer several fish dishes. Also the atmopshere is special: it's cozy but classy, with some seagulls hanging from the ceiling for a maritime flair.

Borwin Hafenrestaurant

The Borwin is a good place to enjoy the variety of fish that comes from the Baltic sea. Thus the location by the Warnow city port is just appropriate. Price and quality are a bit over average; it's the kind of place where you rather have some wine with your fish. All in all it's a really good restaurant that you should visit if you like fish!

The atmosphere of this place is special: from outside, the half-timbered house looks rustic and historic, but it's quite stylish and modern inside. It's a nice place to have a meal, or a drink in the evening, close to the city centre and the city port.

Vegangster is Rostock's most famous vegan diner. Naturally it is located in the young and hip student neighbourhood of the KTV, close to the main university campus. The diner is small and clearly alternative, with graffiti covered walls and the opening hours written with edding on the window shutters.

1. The food. Fresh, healthy, organic, and much more original than the usual 08/15 menu.
2. The location. It's cozy inside, and in the summer it's nice to sit outside as well.
3. The price. Here you get value for money. Eating in the Heumond is affordable, which makes it a great place for young people and students.

The promenade next to the 'Strom' is one of the liveliest areas of Warnemünde. There are plenty of different shops, cafés, and restaurants - something for every taste. For a really local experience, have a fish roll from one of the cutters. But watch out for the gulls - they are sophisticated in stealing your fish from the roll!
