During the 2WW Rovaniemi was heavily bombed and then burned by the German soldier troops who were posted to Lapland between 1941 - 1944. The war was lost to Russian and in the peace treaty Russia wrote ridiculous war reparations, one of them was to exile the German troops from Finland's territory.
Ala-Ruokanen is one of the surviving building from the Lapland War, this beauty has been built 1860 and represents a typical invertebrate peasant building during that era. The house has been renovated for the use and the city is renting it for private and group occasions. The house is not open for the public, but it can be rented form the city.
