Why locals love it
Hill Oikarainenvaara lies near Kuusamontie at the intersection of Permantokoskentie. On this hill area there is a well-equipped defense station, which is part of the Ringwall Defense Line, built in 1944. The German-built Trench / Defense Line is 65 meters long and lined north-west. The line was 1.5 by 2 meters wide and 1 1.5 meters deep.
Why you should visit it
At the southeast end of the trench are two concrete cast machine gun bunkers with external dimensions of approximately 2 x 2 meters. The inside of the bunker is about 1.5 x 1.5 meters, the width of the concrete ring is about 80 cm and the depth of the bunker is less than two meters. The bunkers were equipped with heavy machine guns.
