In a very American style of amalgamation, San Francisco’s cuisine cannot be narrowed down to a few staple dishes which describe what eating might be like in the city. Rather, one finds absolutely everything: in the upper echelons of price there are some of the world’s premier gourmet gastronomy and fusion-style restaurants, while the food many locals eat is cheap and delicious. The amount of ‘foodies’, or the food obsessed, in San Francisco is astronomical. In the Mission District one finds some of the best tex-mex (and real Mexican!) food, while at night one can get a hot dog wrapped in bacon, slathered in peppers and onions and condiments. To add to this hodgepodge of the world’s foods, one also roaming food trucks which occasionally meet up in one spot, and a party and roman feast is born. Eritrean-Irish food from a truck? Sure! Or cross the street and find a meal fit for a magazine cover, or go a block and get internationally famous and locally roasted coffee. Eating is certainly near the center of San Franciscan’s many rings of pleasure.
