This chinese bakery has been a San Francisco icon since 1962, as it delivered eversince about 1000 hand-folded fortune cookies per day. Fortune cookies were indeed invented right here in SF and first served by a Japanese emigrant in Golden’s Park’s Japanese Tea Garden around 1890-1900….So there's nothing more local and traditional.
Hidden in a small alley in the middle of Chinatown, you can see in this tiny shop chinese ladies folding with extreme dexterity the fortune cookies right under your eyes. They'll also will let you taste free sample of cookies, still hot and fresh from the press. Bags of fortune cookie are not expensive and are a great souvenir to bring home.
