Philz serves up coffee blends in a hip yet casual environment. The blends, originally developed and mixed by owner Phil Jaber, are extensive, smooth and consistently delicious. Philz has a true local feel and a comforting sense of community in a neighborhood often known for having a cooler-than-thou hipster air.

Why you should visit it
They have an extensive menu of light to dark roasts and locally made pastries. Try the Mocha Tesora, a silky dark-roasted coffee that’s punctuated with notes of dark chocolate. Bring a book or laptop and hang out on their scrappy but comfortable couches.
Special tip
They don’t serve espresso here, so don’t be afraid to ask the friendly baristas for recommendations. Specify light/med/heavy cream and sweetness.
