Hi,
I'm flying into San Fran, where i'm going to have 2 days by myself, before 4 days with friends. Just wondering if you can recommend some surrounding cities/places that I can easily get to and experience / see something different to that in San Fran?

thanks

Carmel (beautiful beach town), Point Reyes (hikes), Half Moon Bay (beautiful sunset, hikes), Mount Tam (hike), Napa (vino and fun), Sonoma (vino and other fun) all outside the city. Enjoy!

Hi Peter,

I would suggest going to Sausalito (just across the bay), it's a great little town and it's a fun walk. I would also HIGHLY recommend some hiking just a bit further north in Marin County. I would suggest hiking near mount Tamalpais (https://goo.gl/maps/vEFqE7CkWf9F6ftz8) and specfically the bootjack trail (https://goo.gl/maps/32hn3mBHbd43THe4A) or Muir Woods (https://goo.gl/maps/pdFbydSr1g6UoQTi6). The weather may not be conducive this week for hiking. But that would be my suggestions. If it is raining I'd suggest Sausalito (https://goo.gl/maps/EZ8KiTvezhd5xkwLA), and maybe check out Mill Valley (https://goo.gl/maps/sGfHZngj9SDjjwFa9).
Hope this gives you some good suggestions!

Marin County, Marin Headlands, Muir Woods, Stinson Beach. Further up the road in Sonoma County is wine country, Sonoma (city) has the farthest north and last mission ever established and a lovely plaza.

And whatever you do, don’t call it “San Fran” (most locals just call it “The.City”).

If you go to Muir Woods, you might also want to check out the Marine Mammal Rescue Center if you have an interest in such things, plus the drive out there can be quite picturesque. Poggio is great, but you might also want to stop for a drink on the veranda of the Cavallo Point Lodge at Fort Baker.

Go across Golden Gate Bridge and spend morning in Muir Woods. Drive out to Stinson beach. Stop in Sausalito for dinner at Poggio.

Drive south to Half Moon Bay and have lunch at Ritz Carlton Ocean Terrace. Visit the Stanford campus and head north to Burlingame. Enjoy the town and have dinner at Il Fornaio.
