I’d really like to dig into the local cuisine on my trip. Any recommendations for authentic local places? Anything I absolutely must try?

Hi Maria! I would recommend visiting Adrian Tropical and ordering what we call a "Mofongo" it is green plantain mashed with garlic and pork rinds, very very good!. Adrian Tropical is the most authentic restaurant in the city. Among other typical meals you can find in Adrian are Longaniza Frita, Sancocho, Asopao, Arroz con Pollo, and for Dessert for the "Tres Leches" or "Majarete". If you want to eat typical breakfast visit "La Dolcerie Cafe Bistro" and order the typical breakfast "D Breakfast"

Hi.

The typical meal in DR, is Rice, beans, meat and fried plantain. You could go to Meson de Bari @t the zona colonial ot the one the have in the Naco neighborhood for lunch. Ask for the concon!

We also have mofongo ( mashed fried plantain with Chicharron( crispypork)), you can try this at Adrian Tropical , they have two locations, one in the Malecon of Santo Domingo and the other one in the Abraham Linconl Ave.

For a good typical breakfast you can visit CIAO or Julieta Reataurant , the hay the Dominicano Breakfast ( mangú,salami and eggs).

After a good party, dominicans go to Payan for sanwiches and shakes. ( opened 24 hrs).

And I forget, if you want could be the new Dominican Cuisine, at th Abraham Lincoln Ave. theres a little restaurant called Travesias, it's own by Dominican Chef Tita. She likes to use Dominican ingredients and get a modern twist on the classics.

In the Colonial City there are 3 options:
- Jalao
- Bucheperico (These are more touristic oriented Dominican food, with original plates and classics)
- Mesón de Bari (Here you can find great Dominican food and be in a place were local people go to eat Dominican food)

In Gascue, a SD emblematic neighborhood, you can find:
- El Conuco (a Dominican Themed restaurant were you can find food, a little dance show and a gift shop)

At El Malecón or at Abraham Lincoln Ave., you can find:
- Adrian Tropical Food (Its a Dominican Grill House were you can find grilled meat as a lot of other typical Dominican plates like mofongo, sancocho, etc.)
