I don't go very often to Ubatuba, but all times I went I didn't have any troubles, you should be safe.

And yes, you can take a bus from Sao Paulo to Ubatuba. You'll depart from TERMINAL TIETE and it run almost every two hours. You can buy your tickets in the bus company website (http://www.litoranea.com.br/). Click on the English flag and you'll have the site in English.

Have a safe trip and enjoy your time in Ubatuba.

To buy tickets on line you have to be registered with the company using their web site. I have tried this but it was not possible to proceed because when entering my UK cell phone number I could not enter the last digit because the pop up menu did not have enough spaces allocated. This meant I could not receive the code sent by SMS to complete my registration on line. Very frustrating- any suggestions to resolve this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks - Alan JAMES
I bought a Brazilian number so it was fine

Hi Aya,
You can get a bus in Tiete Station. There are many buses from Sao Paulo to Ubatuba. Tiete is the most important station from SP to anywhere in Brazil or Latin America by bus.
Tiete Station has subway (blue line). Is easy to go and go back.

Try get you ticket on Clickbus site. They accept credit card. But you must pay aditional taxes.
If you prefer, get your ticket with Litoranea.com.br, without extra taxes. But i dont know if they accept international cards. Please, check before!

In two cases you must substitute your reserve for the printed ticket. You cant get the bus only with the reserve on the cell phone. Please, attention on this. Then, come earlier, go to the Clickbus stand or Litoranea stand and get your printed ticket by them. Show your ID and credit card used on the transation.

From São Paulo to Ubatuba are 4 hours. Ubatuba is a big city, with many beaches, cutted by a big road goingo to Rio de Janeiro (Paraty historical city). Check before where you will be stay.

Its a beautiful place with nature, blue sea and incredible landscapes. Enjoy it!

Ah! Another thing... maybe is worth checking on “BlaBlaCar” app if you can car pool with someone and go to Ubatuba by car, sharing the cost of gas/rolls with the person (or even more people in the car). I dnt know.... its a good app, I just havent used in Brazil yet. Good luck and enjoy “Uba”!!

There are many beautiful beaches near Sao Paulo (closer to Sao Paulo than Ubatuba). You can try research about: Barra do Sahy, Praia da Baleia, Juqueí, Cambury, Riviera de Sao Lourenco. These are all really nice sand beaches and the “downtown” is pretty close to you wont need car to get around (as opposed to Ubatuba where you most likely need a car to explore more). Have a look and safe travels!

It is safe to take the bus, but make sure to not wear jewelry, show off your phone and keep your personal and most valuable belongings with you at all times (just like you would do in any other city from an emerging country). The ride can take a couple of hours and if you normally get “car sick” with mountains highway, make sure to take your medicine (or be prepared). Normally the bus have one stop. They will give 10-15 minutes, or depending on the company more time. It is enough to go to the toilet. Ubatuba is safe.... but again, try to not be too “flashy” and go out with not so much money... there are beautiful beaches in Ubatuba, but quite often it rains there. So make sure to chose your dates wisely. I am sure you can book online. I have never taken the bus from Sao Paulo to Ubatuba, only from Ubatuba to Rio. But hopefully someone else will help you with that part of your question. :)

Hello Paul
Yes Ubatuba is safe , the city is cool , specially Itagua
But there you have 60 beach’s to know , I recommend you go to :
Praia grande : much people , but big beach
Praia das toninhas : beautiful
Praia do Lázaro : no waves , but so special
Praia domingas dias : wonderful
Praia de itamambuca: surfer beach and very beautiful
You can take a bus in Terminal Tietê and there rent a car , or rent a car in São Paulo and go there .
Have a wonderful time , enjoy .

Hey! I went alone and it was fine. I arrived there, took an uber, and it really didnt cost much. Yet pay attention to the beach that you choose. Enseada was a good one.
You can book the tickets online, or at the station.
If you have any other question dont hesitate!
